The Big Red Thing They've Built at Old Trafford

Thoughts?

Looks utterly, unbelievably dreadful to me.

Lancashire CCC's Jim Coombes was on Sky at lunchtime today talking about it and from what he was saying the members don't like it. I'd be surprised if there are many that do.

I'm all for modern architecture - what they've done at Lord's and the Oval is absolutely spectacular - but this is truly pants.

There's only one of 'em, surely? Guess the plans to build more. :-O

Meh. S'alright. Not a fan but reckon it's on a par with the media centre at Lords, which I've always throught was mildly overrated and a bit incongruous with its surrounds.

And to add to the glory of this, those nice big blocks of red just above eye level will do wonders for fielders sighting the ball.

Marcuss, those pics you've posted have two of these things - is one of them currently under construction?

Not entirely sure. Guess one of our resident Lancs fans will be better placed to answer.

Well Old Trafford needed some renovating but it is fairly hideous it must be said.

Zaremba has always had a problem with modern architecture. Just another attempt at a troll imo.

Very Bauhaus. I think that it is the deep red colour that is most striking and probably causes most of the disquiet, though obviously they'd painted it red because of the Lancashire rose. If it was a standard cream or silver I think people would be more accepting.

Yeah they're planning to build another one on the other side of the pavilion. It was supposed to be the same size as the current monstrosity, but they haven't got enough cash for it now so it's going to be a smaller one.

Looks hideous, just dominates the entire ground. Old Trafford was ugly enough as it was, somehow they have managed to make it even worse.

The plans for the pavillion in the centre are even worse. I like how they try not to focus on it in the pictures  Looks like they're leaving the towers but pulling the rest down and then putting up ANOTHER glass box.

Looks like something made out of Lego. Pretty ****e really.

Wouldn't take much to make it look reasonable. All you want is something a bit more curvy or whatever and a primary colour that isn't borrowed from 197.9 million cars.

It could be worse - at least Old Trafford hasn't been rechristened and rebranded to resemble a North London football team

I dont like it now and it looks like something that will get dated pretty quickly.

I've watched games of International quality there numerous times. But I can honestly say the ground was better before it.
