Flintoff plays down controversy

Andrew Flintoff has said there are no hard feelings between himself and his captain after Vaughan’s ‘Fredalo’ comments made headlines during the week.

Michael Vaughan was the centre of a cricketing controversy when he attributed part of England’s World Cup downfall to the incident where Flintoff had to be rescued at sea after a late night drunken escapade aboard a pedalo.

However instead of preparing for the third Test against the West Indies this week, the England captain was in damage control mode, both in the media and in person with Flintoff; the pair having lunch in an attempt to sort out the incident.

“Michael and I sat down, had a chat and walked away fine,” Flintoff told the BBC.

“We go back a long way, and have a lot of history on and off the field. As far as I’m concerned it’s finished. We’ve done press interviews and this and that.

“I’ve got utmost trust in him, but it’s finished, we move on. I don’t want to be talking about things that happened six to eight weeks ago.”

Flintoff also described the tight bond they’ve maintained over the years and their long term friendship which he said would not be affected by this “storm in a tea cup”.
