Flintoff confirmed as vice-captain
James Nixon |Michael Vaughan confirmed at a press-conference that Andrew Flintoff will take over should he not be able to play due to injury.
Vaughan is however still looking like being fit for England’s first game against New Zealand on 16th March in St Lucia. He told Sky Sports “The knee is fine and that’s a real positive from the spell I had in Australia – that there was no reaction to training and games. It’s been a really good sign for me.”
Vaughan commented along the same lines as fellow captains telling the BBC “The favourites for the tournament are hard to assess – any one of the top eight teams could win.”
Vaughan went on to say “We’d all like to write Australia off but I think they’ll be a really competitive unit. The dark horses are probably us after how we played in Australia.”
Vaughan also commented about England’s poor World Cup form since the 1992 tournament saying “Since 1992 we haven’t performed in the World Cup. This is a great opportunity and a special moment – and there are not too many times in your career you can do something special.”
England’s first match in the Caribbean is a warm-up match against Bermuda on 5th March.
