ECB Interested in Lillee
George Roberts |Dennis Lillee, the great Australian fast bowler, is rumoured to be among the leading contenders for the vacant England bowling coach job following the poaching of Troy Cooley by Cricket Australia.
John Carr, the ECB Director of Cricket, speaking today to ‘The Sydney Morning Herald’ about the outgoing Cooley, said: “We will be casting our net wide in the recruitment process. Our commitment will be to find the best possible replacement for Troy. We’re quite open about our sincere disappointment that we’ve lost him. He’s an exceptional bowling coach.”
Lillee has worked extensively with the Australian Cricket Academy during the past fifteen years and only left due to a dispute between him and the board. Today he announced that he would refuse to rule anything out, but that he would have to give any offer a thorough thinking over.
Other speculators have suggested that Waqar Younis and another Australian, Bruce Reid, are also in line for the vacancy.
