Drawn end in tour match

South Africa ended their tour match in Pakistan against a Patron’s XI with an uneventful final day.

With their hosts 136-3, following South Africa’s imposing total of 467, the Pakistani side would reach 302-8 before a draw was called at tea.

Despite the solid start the previous day, South Africa took two early wickets, before Asim Kamal, always on the fringes of the test side, and Rizwan Ahmed steadied the ship with a partnership of 95. Of the two, Kamal played particularly impressively, playing excellently square of the wicket, especially when opposing the spinners, Paul Harris and Graeme Smith.

He made 49 before he was caught off Graeme Smith, but probably would have made more, were it not for an incredibly slow outfield. His partner Rizwan would make 56, before falling to Paul Harris, one of two wickets on the day for the spinner, who bowled 32 very tidy overs for figures of 3-75.

The Patron’s XI managed to last until tea without losing their remaining wickets, wicket keeper Sarfraz Ahmed stroking an unbeaten 29. With a result out the question, almost all the South Africans got a bowl, though there was one unfortunate setback for them, an injury sustained by Morne Morkel has put him in doubt for the first Test.
