Dravid to lead India
Liam Camps |Rahul Dravid has been named captain of the Indian One Day International side for the two upcoming series against Sri Lanka and South Africa. Dravid, who has been named captain for two series in the past, takes over from the injured Sourav Ganguly in what many fear is another stop-gap arrangement.
Ganguly has been advised to rest his elbow until October 17th, and may not have a place in the team for the first two matches, as the squad for the first two games of series against Sri Lanka is due to be named tomorrow. This fuels the ongoing speculation as to Ganguly’s future at the helm of the national side.
Under Dravid, India has won 7 and lost 9 ODIs, losing also two tournament finals. Dravid averages 36.86 as captain, which is less than his career average of 39.20.
The series of seven ODIs with Sri Lanka begins on October 25th, with a fixture at Nagpur.
