Committee gives recommendations
Zac Gelman |The ICC’s newly established Cricket Committee has announced various recommendations for the ICC to consider.
The committee, chaired by former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar, met in Dubai this week to discuss various aspects that needed changing in international cricket.
Perhaps the most controversial decision made, was the call to keep Zimbabwe out of Test cricket “until such time as the team demonstrates its ability to perform at a standard that does not risk undermining the integrity of Test cricket.”
The committee also found the current amount of international cricket played was too much and recommended a reduction in the amount of ODIs played.
The committee also advocated an extra fielder be allowed outside the circle during the second and third Powerplay in one-day matches and perhaps even the possibility of the batting captain being allowed to chose when to take a Powerplay.
After last years Oval fiasco, ball tampering rules were also major concern for the committee with various recommendations made, including the banning of roughing the ball up by rubbing it along the ground, lifting the seam and scratching the ball.
All recommendations made by the committee will be discussed when the ICC meets in London later next month.
