Canada to host Twenty20 event

In their journey towards the Twenty20 World Cup later in the year, Pakistan, West Indies and Sri Lanka look set to make a surprising stopover in Canada for a four-team tournament also involving the hosts, set to take place in Toronto in August.

The tournament, arranged by the Pakistan Cricket Board, will take place over Canada’s Labour Weekend towards the end of August, a month before the inaugural World Cup which is to be hosted by South Africa.

The teams set to take part have had limited exposure to this form of the game and so will appreciate the opportunity to familiarise themselves with it in the tournament, which will see each team play four games – three in the group stage and then either the Grand Final or 3rd place playoff.

While World Cup preparation is arguably the main reason for the tournament, all teams taking part have stated their commitment to raising the profile of cricket in North America, and are confident that this tournament will go some way to doing so.
