Bangladesh thrashed in 1st Test
Zac Ritchie |Four wickets fell in the space of 28 balls to give Sri Lanka the win in the first Test match against Bangladesh to go 1-0 up in the three Test series.
Bangladesh started the day on 258-6 and were full of positive intent as Shakib Al Hasan dispatched the first delivery of the morning to the boundary. Lasith Malinga, who has enjoyed great success in the past with his lethal yorkers, began to find his rhythm and it wasn’t long before he was pitching the ball in the block hole and causing the batsmen trouble.
Khaled Mashud, the veteran wicket keeper, lasted only one ball into Malinga’s first over before he heard the death rattle of his stumps as a full pitched delivery snuck between bat and pad. His dismissal started the collapse and soon Mashrafe Mortaza had been bamboozled by the doosra of Muttiah Muralitharan after scoring 9.
Malinga then proceeded to take the wickets of both Hasan and Rafique in his next over, with the all-rounder being beaten by a lack of pace and Rafique playing a poor shot to a slower yorker. Prasanna Jayawardene completed a sharp stumping off Muralitharan to dismiss Shadhadat Hossain and complete the game, with Sri Lanka winning by an innings and 234 runs.
