Bangladesh defeat Scotland
Alex Crampton |In the first of two ODIs between the two nations, Bangladesh recorded a comfortable victory over Scotland.
It was a result that surprised nobody, especially as it was Scotland’s first taste of subcontinental conditions. Put into bat by the home side, two wickets fell quickly, as Navdeep Poonia and Ryan Watson both failed to score. Fraser Watts and Gavin Hamilton took them to 50-2, but a flurry of wickets fell from there.
They lost five wickets for twenty four runs, but the tail did offer some recovery from 74-7. Colin Smith, Glenn Rogers and Ross Lyons all chippped in to take them to 153. This would prove to be nowhere near enough to cause Bangladesh any problems.
Opener Mehrab Hossain did fall early, but any hope was soon quashed by Aftab Ahmed and Shahriar Nafees, who added 92 for the second wicket. Aftab was particularly brutal, smashing 66 off 50 balls including three sixes. Both did fall, but Bangladesh were still able to cruise to a six wicket victory.
Scotland 153
Colin Smith 30
Shahadat Hossain 3-38
Bangladesh won by 6 wickets
