Ashes may be it for Warne

Shane Warne has revealed that he may consider hanging up his boots after the Ashes series this summer.

The champion leg-spinner stated “Say I take another 40 wickets this series and score 250 runs, and we win the series, then there mightn’t be a better way to go out.”

Warne was the leading wicket-taker for Australia in their unsuccessful Ashes campaign of 2005, and took a world record 90 Test wickets in 2005 to take his Test wicket tally to 685 – another world record.

His age might play a part in the decision. Warne is currently 37, although he says he feels as fit as he ever has.

However, Warne has also stated that Australia’s relatively light schedule over the next two years might convince him to stay on until the 2009 Ashes series.
