Warne – Murali Trophy announced

Two of the greatest rivals in cricketing history will have their names immortalized in a new trophy named today.

Australia and Sri Lanka will play for the Warne-Muralitharan trophy for Tests between the two countries, starting with the first Test next week in Brisbane.

“We are proud of the rivalry between our nation and Australia, and think this trophy will help add to the sense of occasion every time we do battle,” Duleep Mendis, head of Sri Lankan cricket, told the media.

The two spinners, who have over 2100 international wickets between them, have long been the centre of endless debate on who is the better bowler and with Warne retiring recently, there are no indications that the arguments all over the world are going to be ending any time soon.
