Sree fined for over-appealing

Indian fast bowler Sreesanth has received a slight dampener to go with India’s semi-final celebrations, after he was found guilty of over-appealing during his side’s 15 run win over Australia yesterday.

The erratic bowler was fined 25% of his match fee after continuing with an LBW appeal against Australian batsman Matthew Hayden even after the umpire had turned away.

Match referee Chris Broad gave a stern warning to Sreesanth to curb his behaviour in the future, or face stiffer fines.

“When appealing for a decision a player has to realize he only needs to ask the question once and not over and over again, especially after the umpire has already turned down the appeal. Sreesanth was out of order and the incident set a poor example for the millions of people watching either at the venue or on television,” Broad said.

“In addition to the fine levied, I also warned Sreesanth about his conduct going forward and if he continues to breach the Code of Conduct he can expect more severe penalties to come his way.”

Sreesanth bowled brilliantly during the match, dismissing both openers and conceding just 12 runs in India’s thrilling 12 run win over Australia in Durban.
