Tigers knock the WIndies out

The West Indies have slumped to another cricketing low in being knocked out of the Twenty20 World Cup by Bangladesh in Johannesburg today.

Bangladesh booked their place in the next stage with the win, while the West Indies head home having lost both their games. The West Indies will be expected to do a lot of sole searching following their disappointing performance at the one-day World Cup and now the Twenty20 World Cup also.

Bangladesh won the toss and sent the West Indies into bat. The start was delayed for 90 minutes due to excessive overnight watering.

Chris Gayle who made a sensational 117 against South Africa in the first match of the tournament was dismissed to the third ball of the day, and from that point, the West Indies never recovered.

Devon Smith and Shivnarine Chanderpaul put together a partnership of 95 runs, but it lacked an aggressive intent and it fell to Dwayne Smith to club 29 runs off seven balls to carry the West Indies to a respectable total of 164-8 but it never looked enough.

Shakib Al Hasan took 4-34, but Syed Rasel got the most praise for getting the prize wicket of Chris Gayle and conceding only 10 runs from his four overs.

Bangladesh never looked like not making the target, and cruised home in the end to win by six wickets. In the process, Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful scored the fastest ever Twenty20 international 50 taking only 20 balls to reach the milestone.

When Ashraful finally fell for 61 off 27 balls, Aftab Ahmed took over and saw Bangladesh home to a comfortable victory.
