Fleming ordered to stand down
James Nixon |New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has grown tired of Stephen Fleming’s lack of commitment following news of a pending deal with the Indian Cricket League and have ordered him to stand down and commit himself to NZC.
According to media reports, Fleming was contacted by NZC officials last week and was offered the chance to lead New Zealand on the Test tour of South Africa in November but was told he would be replaced as captain by Daniel Vettori following the series.
Officials were hopeful Fleming would consider playing as just a batsman still, but reports indicate that Fleming was furious with the offer and also in being left out of the Twenty20 World Cup squad.
The Indian Cricket League are understood to have made an offer to Fleming of over $1 million dollars. Fleming currently earns less than $200,0000 with NZC.
