Mascarenhas replaces Sidebottom
James Nixon |The England selectors have opted to replace Ryan Sidebottom with Dimitri Mascarenhas for the Twenty20 World Cup with Sidebottom having not recovered from the side strain he suffered during the third Test against India.
Mascarenhas had an successful one-day series against India scoring 88 runs from two innings with a highest score of 52, and taking six wickets from four matches at an average of 22.83 with an economy rate of 4.02.
Hampshire cricket manager Paul Terry told BBC Radio Solent “He’s been putting in these great performances for Hampshire, and now obviously there’s a groundswell of opinion to get him into the England side.”
Terry went onto say “He’s shown what he can do, he’s got the opportunity and he’s taken it. Now he’s got another opportunity to go away with England and play abroad, and we’ll see how he does doing that.”
