Twenty20 “too serious”

Australian all rounder Andrew Symonds is disappointed that Twenty20 is being turned into a serious concept, saying that Australia would prefer to have fun with the hit and miss concept. The staging of a Twenty20 World Cup has changed the Australians opinion and they will now approach the tournament in September with a must-win attitude.

One reason that Symonds believed people enjoyed Twenty20 cricket was because of the spectacle it created, and also the fact that international matches aren’t played very often which has contributed to the popularity the format has experienced. “The best part is having the captains wired up for TV and being able to play with the kids on the boundaries,” he said. “We’ll lose all that because everyone will take it seriously.”

Symonds has experienced success in the four international Twenty20 games he has played so far and will be a vital part of Australia’s bid to win the inaugural competition. Their campaign gets underway with group matches against Zimbabwe and England.
