Trescothick back in the mix
Zac Gelman |England opener Marcus Trescothick will be in line for an international recall when England name their 30 man Twenty20 World Cup squad, later this week.
The star batsman left the 2006/07 Ashes tour of Australia before a ball was bowled, citing a stress related illness . He has not played for England since.
England coach Peter Moores has admitted that the sorely missed batsman is being considered for the 30 man Twenty20 World Cup squad that will be named on Wednesday.
“Marcus is a very good one-day player and when we announce that 30, if he’s in it, you will know the time is right for him to come back in,” he said.
“Marcus is very much in our performance squad and very much in the loop of everything. We speak to him all the time, he is only at the other end of the phone and that is not just applied to me but other members of the support team.”
Chairman of selectors, David Graveney, echoed the sentiments of his coach in an interview with a British newspaper earlier this week.
“We have to name our preliminary squad by Wednesday. We want to be able to consider Marcus and I will be contacting him to find out where he stands,” he said.
