Ponting back on top of rankings
Zac Gelman |Australian captain Ricky Ponting is back on top of the ODI batting rankings after a poor series from Kevin Pietersen saw him lose the number one position.
Pietersen slipped down the rakings to number two after a fairly dismal performance with the bat in England’s series defeat to West Indies, scoring 33, 9 and 0 for the tournament.
Ponting has not played a match since Australia’s successful World Cup campaign earlier in the year. However, the top places were so close, that all it took for him to regain the top position was a bad series from the English batsman.
Mike Hussey, Matthew Hayden and Mahendra Dhoni round out the top five limited-overs batsmen. Shivnarine Chanderpaul was a big mover in the list, rising four places to 13 after a terrific series for the West Indies in England.
