Sinclair accepts NZC contract

Mathew Sinclair has accepted the one-year contract offered to him by New Zealand Cricket today keeping him in New Zealand until May 31 2008. The contract is thought to be at the lower end of the scale and worth NZ$45,000.

Sinclair told the NZPA that he had verbally accepted the contract and would follow that up with a signature early next week.

“In the end it wasn’t a hard decision. They (NZC) have given me some sort of lifeline, some sort of faith, so now I want to try to return that really, ” Sinclair said.

Sinclair hasn’t ruled out applying his trade overseas though saying he would look into it if he was not selected in a Black Caps squad.

Sinclair said he had sent many emails to clubs and counties over the past couple of weeks but hadn’t had a lot of luck saying “I let them know that I was a free agent. What came back most of the time was that they had already filled their professional quota. So it was a matter of waiting for one of them to get injured.”

Sinclair has played 27 Tests and 45 one-day internationals for New Zealand averaging 35.31 in Test cricket and 28.09 in one-day cricket.
