KP says no to ODI captaincy

England star Kevin Pietersen has rejected any notion that he may take over Michael Vaughan as ODI captain, saying he is not yet ready at this stage of his life.

“It’s something I’ve thought about long and hard but it’s not the right time for me to do it,” Pietersen said today.

“Now is the time for me to be doing team stuff – playing and supporting.

“I’d be humbled in the future to be given the opportunity to captain my country but right now I don’t think it’s the right time for me.

“Whoever gets the job tomorrow gets my full support. It’s a new era now, it’s a good time for English cricket to go forward.”

Pietersen is currently the number one ranked ODI batsman in world after a stellar start to his career, averaging over 56 after his first 51 matches.

The announcement for the captaincy will be made tomorrow in England with Paul Collingwood the frontrunner for the job.
