BCCI perplexed at Ford decision

The BCCI has today voiced their surprise at Graham Ford’s decision to not take up the role of head coach of India, despite being offered the position by the BCCI.

Ford’s decision to stay with his county side, Kent, came as a big surprise last week after it was already announced that he had been accepted into the role.

“I am honoured that India have shown such interest in my capabilities, but feel this is the right decision for me and my family,” Ford said after the BCCI had recommended him as Greg Chappell’s successor.

However the BCCI have expressed their dismay at Ford’s decision, saying there were no extra demands made by Ford that lead to the breakdown, as had been rumoured by the media.

“I can tell you that he did not make any demands. He neither asked for his own support staff, nor did he ask for a two-year term. He appeared happy with what was given to him,” BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah told an Indian newspaper.

“The only doubt was about when he would join the team, not whether. We are extremely disappointed. He could have taken stock of the situation, whatever his problems were, in the beginning, before coming here.”

India have elected to take a manager on their tour of England later this month, as the search for a national coach continues.
