Sammy doubtful for fourth Test

As West Indies enter the final Test of the series against England, having already lost 2-0, they may do so without the services of young allrounder Darren Sammy.

The first St. Lucian cricketer to play for West Indies, Sammy has been one of the brightest spots for his team on another typically poor overseas tour. Sammy took 7 for 66 in the second innings of the third Test, his debut match.

The innings haul was the second best by a West Indian on Test debut and helped instill some competition into a previously one-sided affair. Sammy has since sustained a groin injury and is now in heavy doubt for the fourth Test.

Coach David Moore spoke very highly of Sammy, saying, “If you wanted to hold up someone to say ‘this is what hard work can do’ [then] he’s your man.” The fourth Test will begin on Friday at Chester-le-Street.
