The Guardian hits back

The newspaper at the centre of the Vaughan-Flintoff controversy has hit back at claims the English captain was misquoted in an interview.

Michael Vaughan, trying to downplay comments he made to the media about Flintoff’s negative impact on England’s World Cup campaign, said he had been misquoted by The Guardian and had never used the tabloid created term ‘Fredalo’.

However, the newspaper has hit back at the claims and has provided audio evidence on its website where Vaughan clearly uses the phrase in the interview.

The latest embarrassment comes as at the worst possible time for England and Vaughan, as his side prepares to take on the West Indies for the third Test at Old Trafford today in an attempt to wrap up the four match series.
