Whatmore Indian coach favourite

India are set to announce their new coach after the resignation of Greg Chappell earlier this year; ex-Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore.

Whatmore is an Australian ex-cricketer who was born in Sri Lanka. He coached the country of his birth to a famous World Cup victory in 1996 over his adopted Australia.

His tenure at Bangladesh has also been a fruitful one, with the side making leaps and bounds in recent times, culminating with knocking out India in the 2007 World Cup to make the Super 8 stage of the tournament. Now Whatmore is set to be offered the role as head coach of the Indian cricket team.

The BCCI is expected to announce the decision tomorrow after a committee meeting in Bangalore.

Former coach Greg Chappell resigned after India were knocked out at the group stage at the recent World Cup, with Ravi Shastri acting as interim manager since.
