Sarwan out of tour

West Indies captain Ramnaresh Sarwan will miss the rest of his team’s tour of England due to the shoulder injury he sustained during the Second Test on Friday. Manager Mike Findlay confirmed the news, which had been expected after Sarwan was unable to bat in either innings of the game at Headingley.

“Unfortunately Sarwan’s injury will take approximately six weeks to heal and as a result he will not be able to take any further part in this tour,” said Findlay from the team hotel in Leeds. He added that the replacement as captain had not yet been decided: “As soon as a decision is reached we will make an announcement on who the player is.” Vice-captain Daren Ganga is the likeliest candidate.

“I am very disappointed that I would not be able to continue on tour,” Sarwan said. “But I have spoken with the players and wished them well for the remainder of the Test series and the Twenty20 games and the One Day Internationals.”

The team’s next assignment starts on June 1st, against a MCC XI at Durham University’s ground.
