Rain shortens second day

Only 20 overs were able to be bowled on the second day of the first test in Chittagong after rain left the players stranded in the dressing rooms for most of the day.

India came into the second day after a confident start on day one with four batsman reaching their half centuries; Dinesh Karthik, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, the latter two both not out overnight with India well poised at 3/295.

When play finally started late in the afternoon, Sourav Ganguly continued his successful comeback to international cricket with a well earned century before immediately falling two balls later when attempting to pull Mashrafe Mortaza, only to be caught by Mohammad Rafique at mid-off.

Shortly afterwards, Sachin Tendulkar recorded his 36th Test match century. A phenomenal statistic for a phenomenal career. In what has been a difficult few months for Tendulkar, he answered his critics in emphatic fashion.

However, in a similar style to the recently departed Ganguly, just after reaching his century Tendulkar pulled a shorter one, only to be caught at extra cover by Mohammad Ashraful. Shahadat Hossain the bowler doing the damage.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni played a valuable innings at the other end scoring quickly at over a run a ball with six fours in his 36, whilst new partner Ramesh Powar didn’t last long, bowled by Mohammad Rafique for just seven runs.

It was a successful session for Bangladesh after a frustrating day plagued by rain and bad light. With India at 6/384 heading into the third day, a draw looks like the most likely outcome at Chittagong.
