Vaughan injured again

England captain Michael Vaughan – already inked-in to take the lead against West Indies in the upcoming Test series – has retired hurt after being struck on the hand in Yorkshire’s LV County Championship match against Hampshire and taken to hospital for a precautionary x-ray.

Australian seamer Stuart Clark was the bowler, and despite attempting to continue his innings Vaughan found the pain too much and left the field. “It is the middle finger on his right hand, but we won’t know any more about what has happened until much later,” said Yorkshire physiotherapist Scott McAllister.

The potential injury is doubly disappointing given that Vaughan had struck a fluent 72 in the first-innings of the game before being run out. England fans will hope the x-ray reveals nothing serious and that Vaughan can take his place on May 17th when the series against West Indies begins.
