Malinga set for SF comeback

Exciting fast bowler Lasith Malinga is set to return to the Sri Lankan side for their semi-final clash against New Zealand.

After starting the tournament in a frenzy – taking 15 wickets including a double hat-trick – Malinga injured his ankle and subsequently missed Sri Lanka’s final three matches of the Super Eights.

Captain Mahela Jayawardene told the media that although he could have played Malinga against Ireland, team management decided to err on the side of caution.

“We’ve got a few more days – almost a week – before New Zealand and we want to make sure he’s right after all the hard work put in to get him back to full fitness,” he said.

Sri Lanka thrashed Ireland by eight wickets last night and will now almost certainly take on New Zealand in the semi-finals at Sabina Park in Jamaica.
