Ankle injury ends Baisya’s WC

An ankle injury has forced Bangladesh seamer Tapash Baisya out of the remainder of the World Cup in the West Indies and will be replaced by allrounder Farhad Reza. Baisya suffered ankle ligament damage while following through in the Tigers’ rain-hit loss to Australia last Saturday and further examination has revealed that the injury with require six to eight weeks’ rehabilitation.

Baisya, who has a history of injury problems, was a surprise selection ahead of the more dependent Syed Rasel for the Australia game, yet lasted just 17 expensive balls in Antigua.

Baisya’s replacement, Reza, is a middle-order batsman and useful medium-pacer with ten ODIs under his belt. His recall comes on the back of a string of encouraging bowling performances for Rajshahi on the domestic scene and for Bangladesh A on their recent tour of Sri Lanka.
