Disgraced Flintoff apologises
Zac Gelman |Andrew Flintoff has today apologised for the indiscretion that cost him the vice-captaincy and a one match suspension.
British tabloid paper News Of The World broke the news earlier in the week that a heavily drunk Flintoff had to be rescued at sea after taking out a pedalo late in the night.
“I know that what I did was completely wrong and I have to take full responsibility for it,” he said in a statement today.
“To my team-mates and the England supporters that I let down, all I can say is that I am extremely sorry and assure everyone that I will be giving 110 per cent for England for the rest of this tournament.”
England captain Michael Vaughan was upset at the latest setbacks his side had faced but was adamant that England and Flintoff could pull through them together and have a successful World Cup.
“He’s angry with himself for what he did. I want him playing cricket for England, I wanted him out there entertaining the crowd today but the instances which took place didn’t allow him to be out there,” he said.
“I know in the next few days he’s going to have a lot of media attention and it’s up to us to make sure we get his focus back on cricket when we go and practice and make sure he plays well against Kenya next Saturday.”
