SA hit Dutch for six

In a predictable result, South Africa found new ways to stamp their authority on this tournament and cruised to victory against the Netherlands by 221 runs.

In a rain reduced 40 over a side match, after being sent in to bat, South Africa made an unbelievable 353 from their 40 overs.

South Africa started slowly with AB de Villiers out for a second ball duck, and scored four runs for the loss of one wicket in the first five overs.

Captain Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis then put on a partnership of 113 runs, before Smith was out for 67. Kallis then teamed up firstly with Gibbs (72) and Boucher (75 no) to remain not out 128. Boucher hit the fastest fifty in World Cup history.

A highlight of this strong batting display came in the 30th over when Herschelle Gibbs hit a record six 6’s to blast Netherlands bowler Daan van Bunge.

No one has ever hit six 6’s in an international one day match, until today. The only people to have ever hit six 6’s in an over in first class cricket have been West Indian Gary Sobers and India’s Ravi Shastri.

In reply, the only bright aspect for the Netherlands, apart from their fleuro orange uniforms was the batting of allrounder Ryan ten Doeschate who made 58 before being needlessly run out. The only other notable batting performance was from Tim de Leede who made 21.
