Further scans for Hayden

Record breaking batsman Matthew Hayden will undergo further scans next week that will help determine the true extent of his injury and World Cup chances.

Hayden fractured his big toe during his incredible 181 not-out on Tuesday in Hamilton. It was the highest ever ODI score by an Australian.

The opener remained positive about his World Cup chances though, maintaining he would be ready for the start of the World Cup, next month in the Caribbean.

“I see the specialist and he’ll give me an understanding of what future I have moving forward in the next three to four weeks. I’m very optimistic,” he said.

“I’m really disappointed. But the good news is I don’t think it’s particularly . . . if there is such a thing as a good break, this is as good as it can get.

“The timing is right as well. It’s not like I’m going to miss much cricket. We’ve got a bit of time and time is the only thing that heals bone. It’s been a pretty frustrating day.”
