Vaughan improving by the day

England captain Michael Vaughan’s hamstring injury is improving by the day and he is confident of making England’s opening match against New Zealand on 16th March.

Vaughan who has struggled with injuries over the past 18 months has played only three of England’s last 35 one-day internationals, but said in a statement that “it’s progressing nicely” and “the medical team is confident over the way its gone in the past week.”

Vaughan returned from his knee injury to play the first match of the recent concluded Commonwealth Bank series, but injured his hamstring against New Zealand in Hobart before aggravating it in Brisbane which forced him to return home.

A vice captain has not been named for the World Cup, but it would be expected that Andrew Flintoff would take on the role should Vaughan not be able to play.
