Hayden denies punch-up with Martyn
James Nixon |Australian opening batsman Matthew Hayden has denied a punch up with team-mate Damien Martyn lead to his sudden retirement after the second Ashes Test.
Hayden told Australia’s National Nine News “We allegedly had a punch-up, which is absolute, total fabrication.”
“His decision really, just to go totally on his own and back away was an absolute cracker – something really unheralded in sport.”
“Contrary to what’s been written about, I’m actually very proud of his decision and totally respectful of where he’s at right now.”
Martyn hasn’t spoken publicly about his retirement, but is to do so after selling his story to Channel 9 for AU$30,000.
Martyn came out of hiding following the fifth Ashes Test in Sydney after visiting the Australian dressing room following their victory.
