Shoaib faces more accusations

Shoaib Akhtar is facing more drug accusations after being accused of taking cocaine and cannabis to try and increase his bowling speed.

It is alleged that Akhtar took the drugs at the farm-house of a police official in Lahore.

Former manager to the Pakistan pace bowler Maureen Collins has dismissed the claims telling The Courier Mail “I spent close to two years with him professionally and socially and I never saw any evidence to suggest these claims would be true.”

“I just don’t think he would put himself in that situation. People are just jumping on the bandwagon. I even asked him once in Melbourne whether he would use drugs and he said ‘I would never take drugs, ” Collins added.

Akhtar and team-mate Mohammad Asif have both denied ever knowingly taking drugs and have said they will fight the charges against them that saw them sent home from the Champions Trophy.

If found guilty the pair face a two year ban from all cricket.
