Yuvraj out of India opener

Yuvraj Singh is due to miss India’s opening match of the DLF Cup. The key left-handed batsman will not be available to play against the West Indies on September 14.

Board secretary Niranjan Shah revealed that Yuvraj would not arrive in Kuala Lampur until the morning of the 14th, as he is presently suffering from a fever and has been advised to rest.

Yuvraj is viewed as one of the lynchpins of the Indian one-day side, as reflected by 1128 runs at an average of 56.40 since October of last year. In the period, he has managed eight half-centuries and four centuries.

India expect to see Yuvraj return to the side for their second match, against Australia on the 16th. The DLF Cup kicks off with the West Indies playing Australia tomorrow.
