Ganguly hopes for recall

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has revealed his desire to play for India again claiming he’s hurt by the way he’s been treated.

Ganguly also insisted in a recent TV interview for CNN-IBN that he’s still good enough to merit a place in the Indian team.

“It hurts, it does hurt to be out of the team,” Ganguly stated. “I still feel I am good enough and that’s the way it is. There must be something wrong which has kept me out.”

The something wrong may be the fact that he’s seen as a “disruptive influence” by many, and was described so in an email wrote by Indian coach Ian Chappell in the lead-up to him losing the Indian captaincy and ultimately his place in the national side. Ganguly is widely regarded as extremely arrogant, and is believed by many to have problems with his attitude, backing up Chappell’s statement.

Ganguly refuses to see that side, though, commenting “It is difficult for me to pinpoint any particular reason but the bottom line is that I am out of the team for whatever reasons and that’s what matters.”

“I have just played two games in the last 12 months for India.

“Obviously when I am not a part of the team, somebody does not want you to be in the team and that could be anybody.

“It is very difficult to pinpoint any particular person because there are a whole lot of people involved in team selection.

“The captain, coach, selectors, everybody is involved so it is very difficult to pinpoint any particular person.”

Ganguly is in India’s 30 man squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, beginning in October. Whether he makes the final 14 remains to be seen.
