Dizzy: No chance for first Test

Jason Gillespie believes he will be axed from the squad selected for the first Ashes Test that starts in 100 days today.

Gillespie scored a double century in the last Test Australia played after coming in as a nightwatchman against Bangladesh, and took eight wickets at an average of 11 in the series.

Gillespie told the The Courier-Mail from England, where he is currently playing for Yorkshire “I’ll be honest with you … I think I am no chance for the first Test.”

Gillespie currently averages 27 with the bat, and 32.96 with the ball after 11 first-class games with Yorkshire so far this season.

Gillespie went on to say, “I have not been getting a great vibe about my chances. I know my one-day career is over. I still feel as if my Test career has something to offer but I am down in the queue.

“I know Stuart Clark, Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee are ahead of me. You’ve got Kasper (Michael Kasprowicz), Shaun Tait and Mitchell Johnson. I see myself as below those guys.

“I know they are dying to introduce a new lease of life into the bowling attack and I don’t think they really see much of a future in me. I can handle that.

“I may prove them wrong but we will just have to wait and see.”

Gillespie has played 71 Tests for Australia and taken 259 wickets at 26.13, and scored 1218 runs with the bat at 18.73.
