Tri-series all but over

The South African and Indian cricket teams are close to leaving Sri Lanka following the bomb blast that killed seven people and injured 17 in Colombo earlier today.

The target of the bombing was a security forces convoy who were escorting a Pakistan embassy official. The blast was within the town centre, and 1.6km away from the team hotels.

Sri Lanka officials met with the team managers, coaches, and security advisors from South Africa and India to try and reassure them that player saftety was not being threatened.

Officials told both countries that cricket teams or any sporting events would not be targeted, but had it been a day off South Africa coach Mikey Arthur said many players would have been in the area of the bomb blast.

It is understood from team sources that both teams are looking to return home and are awaiting a decision from their respective boards and the International Cricket Council.

In the interim, the Indian team have requested the highest security level possible, including secret travel plans, clear roads for all journeys and increased personal bodyguards.
