Flintoff down with injured ankle

Scans have revealed that stand-in England captain Andrew Flintoff is suffering from bone fragments in the area of his troublesome ankle. Flintoff admitted after England’s recent third Test match defeat that he struggled through the match after picking up the injury on the first day.

The injury hampered his bowling and forced him out of the attack entirely on the fourth morning of the match. Flintoff went for a scan after the third day’s play. He had gone through the day bowling with reduced pace and a shorter run up.

Given his history with ankle injuries, there is much concern over this most recent ailment. Last year Flintoff had surgery on the same ankle before returning to bowling fitness for the Ashes. He proved a key player in the series and further solidified his spot as a key player in the England set up.

The ailment is the latest in a series for England, after Kevin Pietersen and Paul Collingwood also picked up injuries in the recently-concluded Test.
