Dorey and Cosgrove called up

Damien Martyn and Stuart Clark have been removed from Australia’s ODI squad in Bangladesh, and replaced with two inexperienced choices who starred in domestic cricket in the 2005/06 season.

Martyn is suffering from an elbow problem which saw him left out of the second test in Chittagong, while Clark is fit but will be returning to Sydney to be present for the birth of his child. They join Shane Watson who has already been removed from the squad due to injury.

In their place, Mark Cosgrove and Brett Dorey have been selected. Cosgrove is an aggressive top order batsman in the shorter form of the game, and picked up the ING Cup Player of the Year award in the recent domestic season, after having a significant hand in leading South Australia to the final of the competition. He managed an average of 73 along with two centuries in ING games, and his form in the Pura Cup was also good, as he finished fifth in the run scoring and averaged 66.90.

Brett Dorey, unlike Cosgrove, has played ODIs for Australia already, but he managed little success with just one wicket in the VB series. Despite his poor start, Dorey is the tallest man to play for Australia since Bruce Reid, he also possesses the ability to swing the ball and is considered a significant prospect for the future. While he had a quiet season in the short form of the game, he did very well in the Pura Cup with 38 wickets in 8 matches.

Both will be in line for selection in the three match ODI series against Bangladesh, beginning on the 23rd of April.
