Vettori – NZ Player of the Year
Richard Edmunds |There were no surprises at the annual New Zealand cricket awards tonight as Daniel Vettori was given the top award of Player of the Year.
The Northern Knights slow left-arm orthodox bowler has become one of the finest bowlers in the middle stages of an ODI innings in the world.
Vettori has also showed some noticeable improvement after a poor spell in Tests with the ball, and also averages over 51 with the bat in Tests including New Zealand’s fastest ever Test century against Zimbabwe in September.
The Walter Hadlee Trophies for One Day Internationals went to Nathan Astle and Shane Bond for batting and bowling respectively.
Astle returned to his very best this season with an average of 45, while Bond finally returned from injury and took 36 wickets at an average of 18.11
