Zimbabwe spin past Kenya for 2-2
Liam Camps |Zimbabwe levelled the 5-match limited overs series against Kenya at 2-2 with a 109-run victory in the fourth match. Piet Rinke (72) and Ryan Higgins (4/21) were the main contributors in the huge win.
The game was reduced to 44 overs per side to due inclement weather, and Zimbabwe won the toss and batted first. Captain Terry Duffin grafted for his score of 39 off 59 balls, but his partner Rinke was far more positive in approach as the two added 99 for the first wicket. Rinke’s innings of 72 took 70 balls to compile and he set a good platform for Brendan Taylor (40 off 49) and Elton Chigumbura (36 off 25) to expand upon after his dismissal at 142/3.
Though they lost 5 wickets for 14 runs at the end, Zimbabwe reached 231/9 in their allotment. Thomas Odoyo (3/50) and Peter Ongondo (3/32) bowled to the best effect for the visitors.
Very much consistent with the matches before, the second innings was not as competitive as it may have been, and Kenya collapsed for 122. Only opener Kennedy Otieno (69) and last man Ongondo (17) reached double figures. Legspinner Higgins counted Tikolo (1) among his 4 wickets, and offspinners Prosper Utseya (2/23) and Keith Dabengwa (2/17) also featured strongly.
A crowd of 400 was on hand to witness the home team’s victory.
