McGrath Declares Availability

Glenn McGrath made the bold declaration he would play in Australia’s upcoming VB Series match against South Africa later today. Following his withdrawal from Friday’s day-night match due to personal reasons, it was discovered his wife, Jane McGrath had suffered her second recurrence of cancer in three years.

However despite his eagerness to play in the VB Series, there is still a question mark over whether he will participate in the upcoming tour of South Africa. Jane is due to start radiotherapy treatment this week, and has urged Glenn to continue.

A spokesman from Cricket Australia, Peter Young said: “Jane was keen for him to play, and take a ‘life is normal’ approach.”

The long-term future of Glenn McGrath’s career at this stage is unknown, however Warren Craig, McGrath’s manager has stated: “They just want to get on with [the treatment] and get on with their lives.”
