Proteas discard of Queensland
Liam Camps |Garnett Kruger continued in his good form in Australia, as he and Shaun Pollock shared 6 wickets in victory by 94 runs over Queensland. As South Africa warmed up for the VB Series, Queensland crumbled for 111 in the chase of 206 for victory.
Kruger finished with 3/18 from his 7 overs, and Shaun Pollock had 3/22 from 8. Of the top seven Queensland batsmen, only Matthew Hayden (16) reached double figures and the next highest score was 6.
Andy Bichel (37) and Nathan Hauritz (23 not out) did their best to restore some pride to the effort, forging a partnership of 50 for the ninth wicket after Queensland slumped to 50/8.
Runs were a precious commodity even as South Africa took first strike. Graeme Smith batted first upon winning the toss, but Boeta Dippenaar (80) and Jacques Rudolph (50) were the only significant efforts of the innings, and only Andrew Hall (29 not out) passed 10 otherwise.
Australian prospect Mitchell Johnson (3/33) and the discarded Michael Kasprowicz (2/35) were central for Queensland.
