Mushtaq recalled to Pakistan 16

Legspinner Mushtaq Ahmed has been recalled to the Pakistan senior team after a two-year absence. At 35 years of age, Mushtaq makes his way into the 16-man squad which has been named for the first Test against England.

He will compete with fellow spinners Arshad Khan, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, and Danish Kaneria for a Test recall. Mushtaq made recent statements suggesting that he will be a key figure for Pakistan in the series, and his recall comes on the back of impressive form in County Cricket this year.

In his 52-Test career, Mushtaq Ahmed has taken 185 wickets at an average of 32.97. In 9 Tests against England, his 33 wickets have come at an average of 32.90. However, Mushtaq last played England in Test cricket in 2000, a match in which he took just 1 wicket for 164 runs.

Pakistan squad:
Inzamam-ul-Haq (capt), Arshad Khan, Asim Kamal, Danish Kaneria, Hassan Raza, Kamran Akmal (wk), Mohammad Sami, Mohammad Yousuf, Mushtaq Ahmed, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, Salman Butt, Shabbir Ahmed, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar, Shoaib Malik, Younis Khan.
