Finally play at Chennai
Alex Crampton |After 3 and a half washed out days, play finally got underway on Day 4 at Chennai. In the 32.3 overs possible India got to 90-2.
After the first few balls it seemed that some of the ground staff’s work to dry the pitch had resulted in removing most of the bounce from the surface. Most balls hardly rose above knee-high, and the low bounce accounted for Gambhir, but playing along the wrong line didn’t help his cause.
Low bounce or no low bounce, Virender Sehwag played the way he always has, and probably always will, racking up 36 off 28 balls before slashing to a diving Atapattu at cover. For the rest of the day Tendulkar and Dravid handled the low bounce and the spin of Muttiah Muralitharan sufficiently well enough to still be there at the end of the day.
For India, there were recalls for Agarkar abd Ganugly and a debut for Dhoni. Sri Lanka picked batsmen Mubarak and Gunawardene and legspinner Bandara. With only a day to go, this match is not going to reach a result, but it could be some good practice for India’s batsmen and Sri Lanka’s bowlers
India 90-2
Virender Sehwag 36, Rahul Dravid 30*
Chaminda Vaas 2-15
