Giles doubtful for ODI series

Ashley Giles, the England slow-left-arm spinner, may be forced out of England’s ODI series versus Pakistan to receive treatment with his hip, a problem that has plagued him for most of his career, and kept him out of action versus Bangladesh last summer.

It is unlikely that the problem will keep Giles out of the second and third tests, but Duncan Fletcher, the England head-coach, has made it clear that the spinner will be monitored throughout the up-coming fixtures.

“He is not a doubt for this match, but we will look at the one-dayers, and ahead to the Tests in India, and take action depending on how bad it is,” said Fletcher. “We’re going to monitor him for the next two Tests, and there is a chance we’ll want to send him back early.”

It is likely that Giles will be given lots of time to recover from his treatment, as was done with Flintoff whilst in the same predicament last year so he was ready for the Ashes in the summer.
