Fleming, Bond ensure win

New Zealand have won by 103 runs in their warm-up against South Africa A.

Captain Stephen Fleming made a gallant century while Shane Bond ripped through the hosts’ batting line-up to ensure an easy victory.

Fleming scored exactly 100 off 115 balls after the tourists made a disastrous start batting first.

Nathan Astle and Hamish Marshall failed to score, while Lou Vincent, Craig McMillan, Jacob Oram all fell cheaply.

Brendon McCullum joined his skipper at 97 for 5 and put on 51 runs, McCullum contributing 37.

After Fleming was dismissed by spinner Robin Peterson in the 34th over, Kyle Mills played a vital hand in scoring an unbeaten 47 off 48 balls to lift New Zealand to 231 for 9 after 50 overs.

Mills and Shane Bond struck early with the ball as New Zealand displayed a controlled line and length. Sustained pressure from Andre Adams and Nathan Astle kept the tourists in check, resulting in the run outs of Albie Morkel and Peterson.

Bond then took the remaining wickets to record 5 for 37 off 5.5 overs, South Africa A losing their last four wickets for five runs.

New Zealand play a Twenty20 international against South Africa in Johannesburg on Friday. They play the first of five one-day internationals in Bloemfontein the following Sunday.
